Balewadi pairs Pune's main sports complex with one of its busiest dining strips. The Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, built for the 1994 National Games, has an athletics and football stadium plus indoor halls for badminton, boxing, wrestling and tennis, and hosts tournaments, running events and the occasional large show. Balewadi High Street, a few minutes away, is a strip of restaurants, bars and breweries that is busiest on weekend nights. The Orchid Hotel next to the sports complex is a regular venue for festivals and dandiya nights. The area is beside the Mumbai–Bengaluru highway; the metro line planned through it had not opened by early October 2026.
