About Tilak Smarak Mandir
Tilak Smarak Mandir is a theatre auditorium and exhibition hall on Tilak Road in Sadashiv Peth, built as a memorial to Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the nationalist leader who lived and worked in Pune. Inside is a series of murals by the painter Gopal Deuskar showing important events from Tilak's life. The hall is one of the main stages for commercial Marathi theatre in the city and is equally used for classical music concerts, public lectures, book releases and felicitation programmes; the long-running Vasant Vyakhyanmala lecture series is held here each spring. Because it sits in the middle of the old city's theatre district, it is easy to pair a show here with dinner on Tilak Road or a walk through the nearby peths.
