About Bharat Natya Mandir
Bharat Natya Mandir is a theatre in Sadashiv Peth run by Bharat Natya Sanshodhan Mandir, one of Pune's oldest theatre institutions. It is a working stage for Marathi drama in every form: commercial plays, sangeet natak with live singing, amateur productions and children's theatre. For students it is best known as the home of the Purushottam Karandak, the inter-collegiate one-act play competition organised by Maharashtriya Kalopasak since 1963, which has launched many Marathi actors, writers and directors. Classical music baithaks, kirtan and lecture programmes use the hall too. The theatre sits in the lanes off Tilak Road, close to Tilak Smarak Mandir, so the two between them account for a large share of the old city's theatre listings.
