About Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Kalamandir
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Kalamandir is the Pune Municipal Corporation's auditorium in Aundh, named after the Kirana gharana vocalist and Bharat Ratna recipient who made Pune his home and founded the Sawai Gandharva festival. It is a proper proscenium theatre with fixed seating and good sound, which is why touring stand-up comedians use it for their north-west Pune dates, alongside Marathi plays, music programmes and dance recitals. It draws its audience from Aundh, Baner, Pashan and the Pimple Saudagar side of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Do not confuse it with the Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Kaladalan in Sahakarnagar, a separate art gallery in south Pune. There is no operating metro station in Aundh yet, so plan on a bus, auto or cab.
